Inalienable Rights.
There are a lot of things that confuse me. The reason a cake can’t be baked in a microwave confuses me. The way hair smells nice after a shower confuses me. My friends and family confuse me. One thing that doesn’t confuse me, though, is a gay or lesbian individual. A boy or a girl finds his or her own gender as more attractive than the other. That’s okay. There is nothing anyone can do to change one’s personal opinion.
Adam and Eve.
There is a controversial biblical standpoint that I would like to focus on for a section. Don’t get me wrong. I am a Catholic who goes to school every Sunday and goes to confession, but there’s a difference between having a relationship with God and being ignorant. A lot of the time, people will argue that gay people are unnatural, and that “God didn’t say people should be gay in the bible.” To me, that’s completely unreasonable. God loves everybody for who they are. Why would he let someone someone gay if he created men?

The Ultimate Betrayal.
A child is a child. An egg and sperm combine, and then a beautiful baby is born. Something about witnessing life coming to be gives me chills. Something that has never moved before blinks its eyes for the first time. How can a parent of something so wonderful love their kid for all their life, and then completely alienate them when they come clean about their preferences? The kid is still the same person you raised. There's nothing a parent can and should do except love a gay child. The kid is probably scared, and they need their parent.

Love and Death.
People stopped waiting forever for someone to love them. Being a teenager and growing up is already tough. An adolescent has to deal with making friends, getting good grades in school, doing extracurricular activities, etc. To a lot of people, this is the hardest time of their life. On top of all those things, LGBT youth have to worry about being accepted by their parents, fitting in to society, being made fun of at school, and more. According to the The Trevor Project, suicide is the second leading cause of death among people ages 10 to 24; LGBT youth are 4 times more likely, and questioning youth are three times more likely, to attempt suicide than their straight peers. These statistics blow my mind, because I feel like I've known them since I was little but they haven't really changed.
Don’t Hate. Celebrate.
It me when I see people discriminating against each other because of race, gender, or sexual preference. It actually physically makes me sick. People need to become more educated and realize that there is nothing you can do to a LGBT person but love them. The good news is that America is taking the step forward and allowing same-sex marriage in some of its states. The question is, why isn’t it allowed in all states? Why aren't we moving a problem that gets in the way of equality? Dr. Seuss once said, "A person's a person, no matter how small." Being LGBT is just a characteristic of the person, like their height, hair color, skin tone. Are we going to stop all brunettes from marrying blondes? No. Then why is there still a block in the way of marriage equality? There is a lack of LGBT equality in general. We need to celebrate who we are, not shame ourselves into the dark.
