Things That Set Me Off?
Welcome to the first post of five that will change the way you think. Okay, I don’t want sound too dramatic, but there are a lot of things in this world that make me upset. I don’t think there is a particular reason that they enrage me, but the way that society handles these issues bothers me. There are so many easy problems to fix in this world, yet there are still no solutions to every problem we face today. So many simple things that affect everyone exist everyone, yet no one can successfully fix them. If human beings are the smartest creatures on Earth, why can’t we find solutions for simple things?
A very relevant picture of me while talking about my issues can be found here.
Rape= Never Cool, and Feminism=Cool
The first thing I’ll be “ranting” about is rape culture and feminism. I like to refer to myself as a closet feminist because they’re usually stereotyped as women who shove their beliefs down everyone’s throats. Not to give too much away, but I think that rape is stupid. Rape is forcing someone to have sex with you, and in no way is that justified (yet in this world, women can get blamed from being raped due to unreasonable circumstances). There is no excuse for forcing yourself on someone, no matter what gender. I also think that undermining a women’s ability and being sexist is stupid too. I understand rape affects all genders, but it is extremely common for a woman to be subjected to this idiotic practice. I’m not one to defend women’s rights just to pick a fight, but I will step in when there is a problem.
We're Don't Live in the 1800's
Another big issue is society’s acceptance of gay people, and suicide rate associated with members of the gay community. The fact that being gay is still not accepted in America and other countries is astounding to me. We’ve come so far, yet humans are still so ignorant. I think that inalienable rights should apply to all people, no matter what social status, size, race, or gender a person is. I could go a lot further with this, but this particular topic just breaks my heart. I’ll save the rest for weeks to come.
Don't Hate
Finally, I feel like self-confidence in everyone (especially teenage girls) is at an all time low. I can walk down a hallway, tell a girl, “You’re really ugly,” and she would most likely believe me. She could then either brush it off or cry herself to sleep at night. What happened to people loving themselves and who they are? The depression and suicide rates associated with a low self-esteem are devastating. A change needs to be made so that women and men can live their lives happily, without worrying whether or not they fit the standards of society. I don’t even know, sometimes I just question why society puts so much pressure on everyone. On that note, stay tuned for the longwinded speeches that are coming to this blog very soon.
